I was hoping you'd get more of a response on this one... I think it's just too hard a question to answer! I do think that breaking it down into the cost of materials and labor is a bit too much, though... I like knowing more about the shirt itself: its physical construction (or where they got their stock from), their printing method, what kind of ink, etc. It helps to give me a better feel for what kind of quality I should be expecting, although I expect most people wouldn't know what some of the differences between fabrics, printing methods, inks, etc. are. It seems like extolling the particular virtues of your product (or the virtues of your product in relation to whatever niche your trying to fill) would be a good idea.

A product is only the things you describe because of what you've projected onto it. The Batman toy is like being in the movie for the kid but for the parent it's an expensive piece of plastic bought to keep the kid happy. At the end of the day it's all about creating an impression about something, usually called Marketing. Can you be too honest? Some people would like to know the cost of each item, they don't want to feel like they are being ripped off. They are less likely to feel this if they can trust the person they are sending money to via the internet. In my blog on my MySpace page I've mentioned when I'm having problems which could affect the t-shirts or customers. Keeping things out in the open is something I feel is best.
