Spring is here. Yay. Insert opening joke here. Yay. Move to next paragraph. Yay.
To tell you the truth, its been here for a while now. I think the last time it snowed was two weeks ago, but its been such a mild winter, relaxing days in the park and sun have becoming worrying common for March. I also know its spring because “club style shania twain bridge” singer has come out of hibernation. Looking slimmer from a gruelling winter of rehearsal, preparation and crafting of his art.
I first wrote about him when I arrived here last summer in this post. He’s always been somewhat of a hero of mine ever since I arrived. Its difficult to describe his unique genre of music, i’d probably go for “musical massacre”, his limited repertoire of about 10 songs, his mole like appearance, to says he’s has the full package would be a criminal understatement. I can talk about his heart-wrenching renditions of “your song”, but I wouldn’t be able to find the words to do his act justice. So what i’ll do is talk about what he has come to represent for me.
When I was younger I specifically remembering being told on a regular basis that everyone has their place. Its one of those stupid, adult, don’t bit off more than you can chew statements. I think I concluded from this that place must be dis-proving everybody who suggested where my place was going to be. But watching this guy perform, I cant help but believe that everyone does have their place, he has found his. He has come to represent for me the idea of finding life’s sweet spot, where you belong and are appreciated beyond what you could of hoped. Where you are truly happy, doing what you love.
On his bridge he always has a captive audience of people sitting and listening to him perform. In fairness a large percentage of them are queuing for ice cream opposite, but beggar’s buskers cant be choosers right? I would say at a given time he has at least 25 people watching him, at least 2.5 clap after each song. Not a bad return for a musical troll. I would estimate he earns around 50eur a day busking. I have pulled that figure of my ass, but it gives me comfort that he is properly compensated for his work. He looks incredibly happy doing it. He has a regular slot (every time the sun is shining), a regular fan base (only seems to be me so far, but maybe he is approaching his tipping point. I can see that Florian and Annett are being seduced slowly, one massacre at a time).
I’ve always believed that if you do what you love, firstly you’ll be blindingly good at it, and secondly success and fortune will find you. I doubt this is all that he dreamed of, but i think he’s over-achieving with the cards he’s been dealt, he’s found that sweet spot. In my eyes he is the epitome of success.
I’m off to find my sweet spot, if it involves ice cream and elton john i’ll be even happier….

Looking back, I think this guy is the subconscious reason I moved to Leipzig. Next time friends are over, I’ll make them surrender to the sweet tunes of musical troll. We may even start a religion.
When I passed him today, he played “Candle in the wind”. Monday = keyboard day!
Wow, something I must now seek out in Leipzig! Thanks for the intro.
